As the founder and principal of Out of the Box End-of-Life Planning, Sue Mackey's passion lies in helping people navigate the complexities of end-of-life preparation as a final gift to the ones they leave behind.
She combines this passion with years of experience as a consultant and educator, specializing in alternative and affordable funeral planning and the creation of comprehensive final wishes reflecting core values.
Sue is a Certified Thantologist. She is deeply knowledgeable around the creation of advance medical directives that effectively express your wishes for end-of-life care, and understands the workings of the funeral industry. She serves as a member of the Ethics Consult Team at Boulder Community Hospital, has worked with hospice, is trained as a death doula, is an educator for families who desire a family-led funeral, and is host of the robust Lafayette Death Café.
She holds a B.A. in Gerontology from National Louis University, as well as certificates in Funeral Celebrancy, Contemplative End-of-Life Care (Naropa), Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care, and Geriatric Care Management.
She resides in Boulder County, Colorado.
